目次
The following is a summary of the measures and precautions taken by the School of Science to control the spread of COVID-19.
1 Entrances of buildings, offices, etc.
- Hand sanitizers and stands were distributed on February 25, 2020, and placed around entrances of buildings and offices.
- Hand sanitizers were distributed to School of Science Bldgs. 2 and 3, and Koishikawa Botanical Garden in polyethylene tanks (to be refilled by the Environmental Safety Management Office).
2 Classrooms
Automatic hand sanitizer dispensers were installed outside of classrooms on June 22, 2020.
3 In front of washrooms, etc.
- Hand sanitizers were distributed on June 25, 2020, and placed in front of washrooms and elevators in buildings at Hongo and Asano, and in nearby remote areas.
4 Distribution of Non-Contact Thermometers
- Non-contact thermometers were distributed on June 2, 2020.
- Non-Contact Thermometer Locations.pdf — in Japanese only
- How to Use Non-Contact Thermometers and Subsequent Procedures(Word document — in Japanese only)
- Poster on How to Take Body Temperature(PPT):Please place this near the thermometer. For more detailed information, please refer to the "How to Use Non-Contact Thermometers and Subsequent Procedures".
5 Available Disinfection Supplies
The following items are stored at the Environmental Safety Management Office. Please contact the Environmental Safety Management Office for more information.
- Emergency ventilation (supply and exhaust fan/exhaust duct)
- Protective clothing, rain suits, N95 masks, goggles, etc.
- Disinfectant (liquid sodium hypochlorite (11-15%) / benzalkonium chloride (10%))
- Barrier tape
6 Precautions Regarding Infectious Disease Prevention and Control
6.1 On the use of alcohol-based sanitizers
Sanitizers that contain more than 60% alcohol are classified as hazardous materials under the Fire Service Act. When using these sanitizers, please pay careful attention to the following:
- Do not use near open flame or other heat sources.
- Do not spray directly onto electrical equipment such as switches.
- Be cautious of leaks, spills, or splashes when refilling containers. Make sure the containers are properly labeled with “Caution: Flammable”.
- Keep away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
- Please ensure that there is adequate ventilation when you disinfect a room or refill sanitizers and avoid spraying large amounts of alcohol-based sanitizer in a closed room to prevent the accumulation of flammable alcohol vapors.

6.2 On the use of liquid sodium hypochlorite
Please pay close attention to the following when using liquid sodium hypochlorite:
- Do not apply liquid sodium hypochlorite to skin as it is a strong irritant.
- Wear resin gloves, such as vinyl, when handling liquid sodium hypochlorite.
- If you get liquid sodium hypochlorite onto your skin or clothes, wash it off immediately with water.
- Ensure that the room is well-ventilated when using liquid sodium hypochlorite.
- As liquid sodium hypochlorite corrodes metals, it should be wiped off with water after use.
- Do not mix liquid sodium hypochlorite with any strong acidic detergent as it will create a toxic gas.
- Keep away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
6.3 On the installation of plastic sheets to prevent the spread of the disease
Please pay careful attention to the following if you are planning on installing plastic sheets in an office/laboratory:
- Do not install near open flame or other sources of heat, such as heaters, incandescent bulbs, etc.
- When hanging anything from the ceiling, ensure that there is adequate space in order to avoid obstructing firefighting equipment, such as sprinkler heads or fire alarms.
- Try to use a flame resistant or flame retardant sheet.
- It is important to use a sheet made of fireproof retardant material in the School of Science Bldg. 1 as it is a multistory building.
- Precautions to take when installing a plastic sheet (Tokyo Fire Department — in Japanese only)
